Our Travels in France, Germany & Austria (Part 2)

We woke up in our hotel beds in Strasbourg that Saturday feeling rested and ready to drive to Germany - the border was only about 45 minutes from where we were staying, but once in Germany we still had a day's drive ahead of us before we reached the Bavarian Alps that evening.
The kids were so interested as we drove over the border to know at exactly which point we had left French soil and on to German soil - and pointed out all the differences like the road signs being in different colours and of course, every sign reading in German.

Our drive through France had been dry and mild, and we had dressed in preparation for more of that - but as we got further through Germany it was getting hotter and hotter and soon we were in 27 degree heat (about 80 Fahrenheit) - it was such a sudden shift in temperature we weren't prepared for!

We stopped at a little playground in Ulm and cooled down in the shade - the kids stretched their legs and played on the equipment there - all wooden and well kept, it was beautiful. I just layed down on the cool grass and listened to the sounds of the kids playing happily  - heaven!

By about 2pm it had gotten so hot we really needed something to cool us down so we headed to a nearby McDonalds and ordered ice creams for the kids while we cooled down with iced frappes.

Once back on the road we had another 4 hour drive, the scenery getting more and more amazing as we got closer to the Bavarian Alps - the mountains all around and beautiful fields set out either side of us, it was the most beautiful drive, the kids were kept entertained by the views alone!

We arrived at our apartment just after 7pm - our home for the next 5 days!
The apartment was even bigger and nicer than we had expected from the photos we'd seen, there were 3 large bedrooms and an amazing central space with views overlooking the Alps!

We were ravenous by the time we got settled in that evening so we ordered some pizzas and veggie burgers (kids choice!) from a local restaurant, which took some time getting to us, but it was worth the wait - it was all so good!

Well deserved after our big road trip!

Happy to have finally arrived at our destination!
We may have been travelling for the past 4 days - but our holiday was officially about to BEGIN!

The next morning, waking up to these incredible views was such a treat  - during our 5 nights at the apartment I woke Jared every single morning calling him over to the windows saying "Look! The mountains are still there!" - he would roll out of bed and rub his sleepy eyes saying "Huh... so they are." or "No way, let me check." 😂

Best view to wake up to!

Our first day there it was so warm and nice outside - we took a trip to Lake Eibsee, one of the main reasons we had chosen to stay in this area - it is literally the most beautiful spot on planet Earth!

It was a Monday and it was quiet at the lake, it wasn't tourist season and the local kids would be at school so it wasn't at all busy.

"Carry me, Mama?" Yep - he's got me wrapped around his little finger.

As we walked along beside the lake, it was so quiet and tranquil - there was some serious magic in the air, we all felt it and we've talked about it numerous times since - this place was like a slice of heaven, there is really no way to explain in without sounding corny and like I'm exaggerating - but, this place is just the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Literally like it's been photoshopped right in front of your eyes!

We found a nice quiet spot by the water and we settled there for the afternoon - the water was the clearest and cleanest blue I've ever seen.
That afternoon we paddled, we swam, we talked, we listened to nature, we sat in the sun and we just soaked it all in. Little tiny fish swan around our feet in circles and ducks swam up right beside us asking for bread, which we obliged and they swam off on their way again.

It was the most perfect day, a very special memory for our family. 💙

On our way back, never too tired to stop for ice cream!
